Meet the Family

Hey y’all!
I’m Jodi—the Dreamer and Doer behind this wild and wonderful homesteading adventure. Right beside me through every season is my husband, Tom—my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and the guy who still makes me laugh after 38 years. He’s the Backbone and the Brawn of this place—the steady hand behind the hard work and the reason our dreams have roots.

Together, we raised three amazing kids—Jennifer (36), Jason (35), and Marie (34)—who’ve blessed us with the greatest gifts of all: eight grandkids (six granddaughters, one lucky grandson, and a bonus step-grandson we proudly call ours). Life here is full of muddy boots, wild giggles, and the kind of joyful chaos only a big family and a busy farm can bring. And honestly? I wouldn’t change a thing.

How Our Homesteading Dream Took Root

In 2014, we set out to build something real—a place where we could plant roots, live simply, and grow with the seasons. After a long search (and a few “what are we doing?” moments), I stepped into a worn-down farmhouse that just felt right. It wasn’t perfect, but it had soul. And from that moment on, Brooks Family Homestead Haven™ was born.

Life at the Brooks Havens

These days, our little farm is full of life, laughter, and a whole lot of personality:

  • 🐐 Brooks Goatie Haven™ – Where bottle-raised goats with big attitudes rule the yard

  • 🐔 Brooks Hen Haven™ – Where our pampered hens keep the egg basket full and our compost pile happy

  • 🍯 Brooks Honeybee Apiary Haven™ – Where bees buzz through the wildflowers and bring golden sweetness to our pantry

  • 🌱 Brooks Garden Haven™ – Where heirloom veggies, medicinal herbs, and wildflowers bloom with intention

  • 🌿 Brooks Apothecary Kitchen™ – Where we turn garden-grown and foraged plants into small-batch herbal remedies and skincare

You’ll often find me in the garden, kitchen, or deep in the woods—gathering wild yarrow, plantain, goldenrod, violets, or rose petals. These foraged treasures, along with our cultivated herbs, are turned into tinctures, salves, balms, and self-care goods designed to reconnect people with the land—and themselves.

The Animals Who Are Really in Charge

We’d be lost without the unofficial rulers of the homestead:

🐶 The Doggos: Izzy, Patches, Dinga, and Buddy are equal parts guard dog, mud magnet, porch companion, and comic relief.

🐱 The Kitties: Sox, Boots, Orange, and Phantom split their time between pest control, sunbathing, and judging us from the rafters.

🦜 The Keet: Ivy, our cheerful parakeet, keeps us company with her chatter while we work in the kitchen and garden.

From barking at the wind to napping in flowerpots (or chirping opinions from her perch), each one has a role in the daily rhythm of our lives—and they take it very seriously.
